MWC 2012 is here and Sony has just announced their latest addition to the Android pack. Sony unveiled two new handsets Xperia P and XperiaU.These two handsets are members of Sony’s Xperia NXT family, which is the next generation of Xperia handsets.
Sony already announced Xperia S at CES 2012. Although both these phones share a similar design to elder brother Xperia S but are different in their own ways.
The Xperia P boasts a 4 inch display with a resolution of 960×540 featuring Sony’s White Magic display which provides better viewing angles and visibility in sunlight. It has a Dual core processor with 8MP camera which can shoot in full HD. The phone also has NFC capabilities and an aluminum unibody design.
The youngest of the 3, Xperia U has a 3.5 inch display with a resolution of 480 x 854 powered by Sony’s Bravia engine for mobile. It has a 1 GHz dual core processor with a 5 MP camera that can shoot in 720p. The phone has the same transparent band like Xperia S and Xperia P but its band can change color according to your choice which is not possible in Xperia S and Xperia P.
No word on the pricing yet but we will see both the devices in Q2 2012 while Xperia S goes on sale this week in Barcelona. Sony also made clear that Xperia Ion will also be available in the markets worldwide later this year. Xperia Ion was announced at CES 2012 and has the same specs as Xperia S but a bigger display (4.6 inch) and no transparent band at the bottom.
Sony is definitely looking to conquer the Smartphone market after buying out Ericsson’s share and is hoping for the best with its Xperia NXT series. We will see how these devices perform when they are out in the market.
