Slam Dunk King: App Review
Slam Dunk King is yet another addictive game that we came across. Slam Dunk King is all about the trick shot. Balls are sent your way, and you’ve got to dunk them like a pro while racking up some crazy combos. Flick them into the net, flick away bombs, and sneak a few tricks in and you’ll be well on your way. There are twelve tricks to learn, from the humble Juggle to the Air Gordon, and each will rack up your points. I was honestly surprised by how good Slam Dunk King looks. The basket (backboard, rim and all) is incredibly well-represented and animated. The balls and bombs all move and spin in a blend of cartoonish realism. But more than anything, there’s just this great sense of feedback when pulling off tricks as the points erupt out of the basket and the multiplier climbs sky-high. There are three ways to play.
Time Attack gives you 90 seconds to earn the biggest score you can. Bombs slow you down, but nothing can stop you but the clock. Arcade mode gives you three balls – drop ‘em all or let a bomb hit the net and you’re done. While the balls are being dunked, bombs also get thrown into the mix. These need to be swatted away or else points and time is lost. The player you select is also important (only one being available from the get go and the rest having to be purchased in the store). As dunking goes on, a special meter is filled in the top right of the screen, which can be activated for a special power. Copernicus’ power is to award points for swatting bombs, with all of the other players having powers even more useful such as doubling the points of every dunked ball. The store also has arenas, balls and the ability to remove the in game ads available for purchase. You can earn balls back with good performance, though. Finally there’s Sudden Death, by far the most punishing. One missed ball will end your game. Arcade and Sudden Death can both be unlocked by earning high scores.
The mascot thing is kind of a waste though. You get 100 points each every single time you swat a bomb. It’s more of a happy go lucky kind of a boost for you never know the frequency of the number of bombs that you might get while the mascot is on. Even though this isn’t as much a glitch but more of a personal opinion about the boost.
For everything else, Slam Dunk King is one addictive game which every sports lover will enjoy and every non lover of sport would love to play. So on your next visit to the app store, which we believe would be just a couple of seconds from now, download this one. Enjoyable and simple.
We give it a good 4.5/5 from us at OP.
