In one line- A bad remake of the hollywood classic Italion Job. Abbas Mustan have the reputation of making films with a lot of twist and turns but their pattern has become really transparent and predictable by now.
PLAYERS is about a team of skilled and sharp group of people — Charlie (Abhishek Bachchan), Ronnie (Bobby Deol), Spider (Neil Nitin Mukesh), Riya (Bipasha Basu), Bilal (Sikander Kher) and Sunny (Omi Vaidya) — who rob the gold bullion from Russia successfully. But one of them double crosses the players and the team sets out, with Naina [Sonam Kapoor] also included in their task now, to retrieve the gold and also settle scores.
Despite the cast of the film, which was not very promising, I was really looking forward to watching it. The sole reason being that I had really liked the first remake of Italion Job which starred Mark Wahlberg, Jason Stathom among other talents. There was something about them that gave them the look of a conman but Abhishek Bachchan seriously lacks it. He can play the role of a cop quite allright(thanks to Dhoom franchise) but a conman, not so good in my opinion. I have never been a huge fan of Booby Deol and Bipasha Basu, though the latter has managed to dazzle the audience in the past. As for Sonam Kapoor, she really has a long way to go before she can proudly call herself of being in the same league as that of the leading ladies of the Hindi Film industry.
The only silver lining, which I felt, was Neil Nitin Mukesh. I don’t know how many of you have seen his first film-Johnny Gaddar, the movie in which he portrays the role of a con man to perfection. His performance was commendable but a lot more than one good performance or good costumes are required to make a good film.
